NASA, in collaboration with Florida-based computing startup Lonestar and the Isle of Man, is planning to send data cubes to the Moon in February 2024 as part of its Artemis missions. These data cubes will contain data that will be verified using blockchain technology back on Earth. The goal is to use blockchain to provide immutable proof of human Moon landings, with the upcoming Artemis 3 mission in 2025 expected to confirm this. Lonestar and the Isle of Man aim to pioneer long-term lunar storage systems powered by solar energy. The data stored on the Moon could also allow future astronauts to verify their interactions on the lunar surface via blockchain, potentially dispelling conspiracy theories.
