BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, has filed for a spot Ether exchange-traded fund (ETF) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Ether ETF, named the iShares Ethereum Trust, aims to track the performance of Ether's price. BlackRock's move follows the registration of the iShares Ethereum Trust with Delaware’s Division of Corporations a week earlier and its spot Bitcoin ETF application six months ago. Coinbase is appointed as the custodian for the underlying ETH. This filing is part of the institutional rush into cryptocurrency-based spot ETFs, reflecting growing interest in the crypto market, with predictions of a high chance of spot Bitcoin ETF approval by early 2024.
